HONEYMOONACO!

November 22, 2015
Rounding up my honeymoon with M O N A C O! A place I've been dreaming of exploring!

There's a lot to know when it comes to this microstate, and after watching 'Grace of Monaco' and doing some holiday research, I learnt some interesting fun facts about Monaco!
  1. Monaco does not have a capital, but it is actually made up of four areas: Monte Carlo, Monaco-Ville, La Condamine, and Fontvielle.
  2. It's the second smallest country in the world.
  3. Monaco is a constitutional monarchy ruled by the Grimaldi family, the oldest ruling family in Europe.
  4. The natives of Monaco are called Monegasque, but the foreign residents of Monaco are called Monacoian.
  5. The residents of Monaco are not allowed to gamble or enter the casino.
  6. The flag of Monaco and the flag of Indonesia is almost identical.
  7. Princess Grace was a famous American actress.

It's pretty easy to move around and visit the famous sights in Monaco. We started off at the famous, grand Monte Carlo casino and it was all glitz and glam! Watched fast cars drive around the fountain and admired all the beautiful dressed people. Stood on the famous F1 Fairmont Hairpin and watched cars drift and tackle the tight corner. Took a couple stroll through a calming Japanese style garden. Walked along Digue De Monaco and caught a magnificent view of the roaring ocean and ended up at the back of the beautiful Oceanographic Museum. Took a stroll through the colourful alleys with bottles of fizz in our hands. Took a lesson in history at the Princely Palace and walked down the Rampe Major Staircase. Walked through Rue Princess Caroline and made it to Port Hercule, where they were setting up for the upcoming yatch show. Explored the Exotique Garden where we got lost and pricked by different species of cactus and plants. Spent some time in a prehistoric cave, where we walked 60 meters below ground and saw stalagmites and stalactites for the first time! Watched helicopters take off from a hidden location. Caught a beautiful sunset in a garden of roses, set up for the memorial of Princess Grace. And ended our day sharing a bottle of rosé in our cozy studio apartment and falling asleep in comfy sheets. There were some spots we missed, but Monaco is a place I'd go back to! Definitely!

Had a rather heavy heart when we got on the plane home, but all's well that ends well. That's a wrap for our honeymoon: sunkissed Nice, red-carpet Cannes, champagne-soaked St Tropez, breathtaking Verdon Gorge, calming Geneva and aristocratic Monaco.

Thanks for the memories, Huz!
